The Power of Freedom: Central and Eastern Europe after 1945

The Centre for European Studies (CES), launches Mart Laar,'s book 'The Power of Freedom: Central and Eastern Europe after 1945'.

Mart Laars is Chairman of Estonia’s IRL Party and a former Prime Minister of Estonia, who will be launching in Brussels his book, entitled The Power of Freedom: Central and Eastern Europe after 1945.

The Power of Freedom describes a gripping journey through the history of Central and Eastern Europe, mapping the anticommunist resistance and the changes of 1989. It offers a detailed analysis of alternative models of post-communist transition and successful integration of Central and Eastern European countries into the Euro–Atlantic structures. It is a book about courage and solidarity. It is also a book about freedom and democracy winning over fear and oppression.

For all those who want to hear clear political opinions from an author who himself played an important role in the fall of communism and Europe’s changes in the last 20 years, this book, and its presentation, should not
